Gobble ’til You Wobble

I hope everybody is having a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.  To my World Friends I hope you have a great Holiday Season.

Today The Queen & I are having a peaceful day by ourselves.  At least, that’s the plan.  The Queen baked 3 pies yesterday (2 pumpkin, 1 apple) and bought ice cream and whipped up some cream for the pies.  This tells me we just may get visitors, but one can hope.

When I got up this morning I got a whiff of tonights dinner … I put on 3 lbs by the time I got dressed.

With apologies to Billy Joe Shaver;

The Devil made me do it the first time,

The second time I did it on my own.

Lord put a handle on this simple headed man,

And help me leave that fat food alone.

I have been out trying to straighten up my studio, but each time I pick something up to put it away, I start playing with it and before I know it I have a new project going.  Oh well there’s always tomorrow to put stuff away.

Black Friday … that just sounds so forbidding.  I think I’ll pass on it.  It seems there will be a lot of great deals, but maybe I’ll just do some on-line “meandering”.  I started yesterday getting 2 for 1 refills for my Glue Glider.

Twas the Night of Thanksgiving

Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn’t sleep

I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned — the dark meat and white,

But I fought the temptation with all of my might.

Tossing and turning with anticipation,

The thought of a snack became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door

And gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.

I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,

Pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,

Till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.

I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky

With a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees…….

Happy eating to all—pass the cranberries, please!

CKC Seattle

The CKC in Seattle was great.  I met so many people from a lot of forums and local clubs I have joined.  It was even better than last year, but I hope not as good as next year.  Next year I intend to play more and work less.

Had lunch with Tona, Cathy and two others I can’t remember their names.  There was a group of CK forum friends from Canada.  There were Making Memories forum friends from Spokane & Idaho.  Serendipity had a booth and I met those folks, they said I should post there more … and I will.  I met 3 Skinny Cowgirls (they are going to just love this photo), and some TOM girls (Treasury of Memories Bellingham,WA).

My scrapping mentor was there Jennifer from Lasting Memories and 2 of her daughters were there, Jana and Megan.  She presented a layout for the Thursday night album crop.  Jen was out of uniform, I almost didn’t recognize her in green … she always wears pink.

I know I spent my $100 cash I had saved for this and another $180 I got for 6 volunteer shifts and I bought 9 meals and snacks with my card (The Queen has to pay that part).  I bought so much stuff I can’t remember it all.  I guess I should learn to keep receipts.

I scrapped the event and entered a page in the contest, I didn’t know I was to hand in a color copy of it so I handed in my original and it got some damage, but I can fix it.  The Canon rep, Allen Luke, took many pictures of the Friday night crop and let me have a set for my page and ran off my pics also at the Canon Booth.  He was a real lifesaver.   Here is my contest entry;          contestpage

I took an Erin Manning class, and she autographed my copy of her book.  I look forward to seeing her each year.  Here is a link to her site.  http://www.erinmanning.com/index.html   You can ask her all kinds of questions; she knows what all the buttons are for.

Cathy (MamaSheg) took some photos of my craft room, made them into a movie, and put it on her site.  Here is the link.  http://mamasheg.com/2008/11/12/a-tour-of-dons-workshop/#comments   She is such a good friend, I enjoy spending time with her and her sidekick Aims.

You should have been there, it would have been more fun.

Here’s some more humor to pass along.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS FOR TEENAGERS
No one fails a class anymore; he’s merely “passing impaired.”
You don’t have detention, you’re just one of the “exit delayed.”
Your bedroom isn’t cluttered, it’s just “passage restrictive.”
These days, a student isn’t lazy. He’s “energetically declined.”
Your locker isn’t overflowing with junk, it’s just “closure prohibitive.”
Kids don’t get grounded anymore. They merely hit “social speed bumps.”
Your homework isn’t missing, its just having an “out-of-notebook experience.”
You’re not sleeping in class, you’re “rationing consciousness.”
You’re not late, you just have a “rescheduled arrival time.”
You’re not having a bad hair day, you’re suffering from “rebellious follicle syndrome.”
You don’t have smelly gym socks, you have “odor-retentive athletic footwear.”
No one’s tall anymore. He’s “vertically enhanced.”
You’re not shy. You’re “conversationally selective.”
You don’t talk a lot. You’re just “abundantly verbal.”
You weren’t passing notes in class. You were “participating in the discreet exchange of penned meditations.”
You’re not being sent to the principals office. You’re “going on a mandatory field trip to the administrative building.”
It’s not called gossip anymore. It’s “the speedy transmission of near-factual information.”
The food at the school cafeteria isn’t awful. It’s “digestively challenging.”

Remember Me?

Cathy (mamasheg) dropped by with Nika yesterday to take some photos of my studio/shop and mentioned that I haven’t posted here in quite a while.  So now, I have a guilt complex.

The most important thing in my “craft-life” is the CKC.  I have my contest layout all ready except for pictures and maybe some embellishments … I haven’t decided yet.  I have about 150 ATC’s to hand out.  I will be there all day and evenings for all 3 days.  I hope I will be able to meet everybody; I won’t be hard to find.

Here is my list of scrapping and/or stamping stores in Washington State.  I know not all are listed.  I have not put in Mike’s or JA’s or the big craft store in Marysville, just the owner operated stores.  I did include some Ben’s because each is privately owned and have a good scrapbook and stamp section.  If you have any additions or deletions please let me know.  One of my goals is personally visit each one.

OK, I don’t know how to do this without cutting off the towns.  If you want the full list, email me & I’ll send it in Excel format.

I don’t remember where I got this, but felt a need to share. ;)

AMAZINGLY YET SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES

1. IF YOU’RE CHOKING ON AN ICE CUBE, SIMPLY POUR A CUP OF BOILING WATER DOWN YOUR THROAT. PRESTO! THE BLOCKAGE WILL INSTANTLY REMOVE ITSELF.

2. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.

3. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT – USE THE SINK.

4. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.

5. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.

6. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU’LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.

7. YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE – WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN’T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN’T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

8. REMEMBER – EVERYONE SEEMS NORMAL UNTIL YOU GET TO KNOW THEM.

9. IF YOU CAN’T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU’VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

DAILY THOUGHT: SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES – NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING, BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

Meandering

The Queen & I went to JA’s the other day.  She went to shop, I went to meander (I don’t shop).  We got 6 stacks, three 12 X12, and three 4 X 6, fifteen 12 X 12 card stock, a plastic tote box, a package of 12 X 12 specialty paper, and a 24” X 36” cutting mat.

I have been wanting a larger mat for over a year, but have been bashful about spending that kind of money.  I really wanted a Fiskars mat, but then they went to the fold up kind.  All the others I saw said use rotary knives only, but the one I got said rotary or fixed blade.  When I picked it up there was no price on it and the lady in the sewing department had no idea as to the price and suggested I ask at the register.

Understand, I am on the JA mailing, newsletter and email lists, plus I get the Sunday paper.  I had coupons, more than I could count.  Everything I bought was on sale for 40% or 50% off, so coupons were useless … why even bother.  When I got to the register, (Disneyland lines aren’t that long) I asked the lady how much for the cutting mat and she said $26.99 and that was ½ price.  I was trying to decide if I wanted to spend that much when all of a sudden she said “I can give you an additional 20% off.  About then The Queen said I could get it.  Getting a double dose of good, I handed over my plastic spending device.

So the final tally was $74.10 including tax, and Total Savings $86.90.  I don’t know exactly what happened, but I explained to The Queen that the nice lady loves me.  The Queen tends to shake her head a lot.

Holiday Eating Tips1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they’re serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt scotch, it’s rare. In fact, it’s even rarer than single-malt scotch. You can’t find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It’s not as if you’re going to turn into an eggnog-aholic or something. It’s a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have two. It’s later than you think. It’s Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That’s the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they’re made with skim milk or whole milk. If it’s skim, pass. Why bother? It’s like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other people’s food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year’s. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you’ll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don’t budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They’re like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you’re never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or, if you don’t like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it’s loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don’t feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven’t been paying attention. Reread tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.

I am ready.

I just completed my 100 CKC (Creating Keepsakes Convention) ATC project.  I made 100 ATC’s to give and/or trade at the Seattle (actually Bellevue) CKC in November.  I also made another 77 in 6 sets.  I have given out 6 to friends, the rest I am keeping until November.  I’m going to try and take some pictures.  I have them all sorted and in containers.

The Queen & I went to Lasting Memories on Saturday to see the Slice demo and we entered the drawing for a free one.  I don’t think I won because nobody called.  Later we went to Stampin’ in the Rain and I made a card decorated with leaves dried in a microwave oven (I wasn’t invited to push the buttons).  After they were dried they felt just like paper.

I am getting adjusted to my job, except I have to learn how to deal with weekends.  I am typically a night person, so I stay up late on Fridays and Saturdays.  I have a hard time going to bed at 8:00PM on Sunday.  I have been taking Tylonal sleeping pills on those nights.  I don’t care for sleep aids unless I am sick.  Then my friend is Ny-Quil (the stuffy, sneezy, why-the-heck-is-the-room-spinning medicine).

Dietisms

There’s only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people.
Everything I do is either illegal, immoral, or fattening.
He once went on a diet. Three hundred farmers declared bankruptcy.
He believes in a balanced diet: a beer in each hand.
A successful diet is the triumph of mind over platter.
Inside me lives a skinny man crying to get out. But I can usually shut him up
with cookies.

Brain cells come and brain cells go, but fat cells live forever.
He was so fat that he could only play seek.
Balanced Diet: What you eat at buffet suppers.
Dieting: The penalty for exceeding the feed limit.
Dieting: The triumph of mind over platter.
Fat: Energy gone to waist.
Obesity: A surplus gone to waist.
Overweight: Just desserts.
Reducing: Wishful shrinking.
New Study of Obesity Looks for Larger Test Group.
It’s easy to distract fat people. It’s a piece of cake.
Should vegetarians eat animal crackers?
My metabolism stinks. I can gain weight just listening to dinner music.
It’s time to diet and exercise when you accept the fact that you can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time – but not while you’re wearing a bathing suit.

I don’t have a title.

As I was writing the title for this drivel, I thought, “I need a Title” hmmm …

My driving job has gone off without very many hitches.  I marvel at the fact the state paid $42 million to widen and improve 6 miles of freeway and the traffic slowdowns are the same as before.  Highway projects are functionally obsolete before they are completed, and it really doesn’t matter who is in office.

I have my ATC’s mostly ready for the CKC in November and I have a couple of ideas for the Thanksgiving ATC’s on the Fiskars forum.

My shop is a complete mess, but it is an organized mess.  I don’t have to clean it until it is a chaotic mess.  There is a lot of texture on the floor and footwear is mandatory.  I bought another 1½ lbs of assorted buttons to use on my cards, and I am cutting off the loops on the backs of them with wire snips and trimming them with my craft knife.

Cathy, when you read this I need a place I can put “Tips” about my crafting.  So when you can come over, you can show me how to do it.

Something to do

Monday it is back to the salt mines.  I start a job driving a van from Woodinville to Tacoma and return for Coit (the shiny black van people). The distance is a little over 100 miles, and about 2 hours of drive time (round trip) in perfect conditions.  Except I leave at 5:45 AM, just in time for the morning commute.

I am to take clean rugs, drapes, and paperwork down and bring dirty rugs, drapes, and receipts back.  It is a guaranteed four-hour shift, Monday through Friday, no weekends.  The only thing that bothers me is getting up at 4:30 in the middle of the night.  I didn’t even know there was such a time, but the Queen says there is.  I’m sure there will be ghosts and goblins out at that time.

Ten Laws Of Stuff  (Scrappers know all this)

Stuff breeds, the more you have, the more you need.

Useless stuff crowds out the good stuff.

Dust loves stuff.  Bugs love stuff.  Rodents love stuff.  Moisture loves stuff.

Stuff loves to stay where it lands.

Stuff expands to fill the space available.

Over time, stuff becomes invisible.

Stuff costs you money.

Stuff has a powerful effect on your state of mind.

Stuff takes on value only when it is used.

Stuff doesn’t make you happy, you do.

Another Trip

Here I go, off on yet another free trip around the sun.  I have no idea of what is in store for me today.  I quit making a big deal of it when I turned 18 and my parents quit putting money in my birthday card.  Now others want to make it a big deal, and I just go along with it because I get cake and ice cream.  It is shameful how easy I am.  I have already gotten cards from my dentist, insurance agent, car dealer, and accountant.

I suppose I will be fussed over today, but then I am fussed over every day.  The Queen treats me right all the time.  Yes, I am absolutely spoiled, and I absolutely love it.  All I asked for is a corner piece of cake (spice with butter cream icing) and a scoop of ice cream (vanilla).

How old am I?  Last year, by the time they lit the last candle, the first one burned out.  That is embarrassing, and then the fire dept showed up because the smoke alarm went off.  Actually, I am 29 years old today, I have no idea how that AARP card got in my wallet.

These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the hereafter… I go somewhere to get something and then wonder what I’m here after.

An older couple decide to go to the doctor for a checkup. The doctor tells
them that they’re physically okay, but they might want to  start writing things
down to help them remember. Later that night while watching TV, the old man
gets up from his chair.

His wife asks, “Where are you going?”
“To the kitchen” he replies.
“Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?”
“Sure.”
“Don’t you think you should write it down so you can remember it?”  she
asks
“No, I can remember it.”
“Well, I’d like some strawberries on top, too. You’d better write it down
because you know you’ll forget it.”
He says, “I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with
strawberries.”
I’d also like whipped cream. I’m certain you’ll forget that, so you’d
better write it down” she retorts.
Irritated, he says, “I don’t need to write it down, I can remember it.
Leave me alone. Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream I got it,
for goodness sake.” Then he grumbles into the kitchen.

After about 20 minutes the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his
wife a plate of bacon and eggs.
She stares at the plate for a moment and says  – “Where’s my toast?

Getting Ready

I am getting excited about the Creative Keepsakes Convention coming up in November.  I am making 120 ATC’s to hand out to people I know and people I meet.  I have all cards cut and the backgrounds put on and labels on the backs.  Now I just have to stamp them, ink them with a glitter pen and add the embellishments.  Three more days should do it.

I volunteered again for all 3 days here is my schedule;

Thursday: 11/13/08

8:00 AM to 12:00 PM –Pre-Registration

6:30 PM to 10: 30PM –Album Crop

Friday:  11/14/08

8:30 AM to 12:00 PM–Greeter

5:30 PM-9:30 PM –Friday night crop

Saturday:  11/15/08

8:30 AM to 12:00 PM –Greeter

5:30 PM -9:30 PM –Saturday night crop

In between times I can meander thru the vendor fair or take classes.

I am also glad to see they are working on the Northwest Paper Chase.  It will be interesting to see if they get more stores involved.  Maybe this year I can remember to take my camera every day, and take pictures at each stop.  I am going to make a list of things to do at each stop … I hope I can remember to put the list in my car.
